Columbus Teaching Academy

<physics>

On August 27, seniors from across the Columbus City Schools begin the third year of the Columbus Teaching Academy, a partnership between Columbus City Schools and the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences. This year, we welcome a new teacher, Melissa Dudley.

For the start of this year's program, young women and young men considering a career in education meet with their CPS teacher, Ms. Dudley, every afternoon in the Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center. Throughout the school year, they will meet at different sites across campus, including the Central Classroom Building and Hopkins Hall. In addition to studying education as a career, students will serve internships in CCS elementary and middle schools and work with Ohio State Arts and Sciences faculty, staff, and students in pre-college enrichment activities. Some of those activities include:

  • Discussion of the ASC Buckeye Book Community selection, The Language of Baklava by Diana Abu-Jaber
  • Meeting with ASC advisors and current Ohio State students to discuss college expectations
  • Workshops with Columbus Teaching Academy Faculty Friends that include the Mathematics and Statistical Learning Center, Foreign Language Center, College of Biological Sciences Greenhouse, Wexner Center for the Arts, Department of English, Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing, and Arts and Sciences Middle Childhood Education program.
